Pumpkin Picking Season

It’s that fantastic time of year where we get the opportunity to go in farmers fields full of beautiful bright orange pumpkins, searching for the biggest and best we can find!

We’re lucky living where we do as just outside of Darlington, in North Yorkshire on Scorton Road we have the lovely little place that is Atley Hill PYO Pumpkins.

There is lots of space for parking on a field which is on the same side as the pumpkins themselves which is great if visiting with little ones as the road has cars going past at quite some speed (it’s a 60 road) so using the field is advisable.

There is lots of space for everyone to have a good look around the huge field of pumpkins which has a grassed area surrounding the patch which is great as its nice and easy to walk around and I imagine a little easier for anyone with a pushchair.

There are a few wheelbarrows available too to use as some of the pumpkins are massive! We walked around a few times before deciding on an enormous round pumpkin and another green one shaped like a minion according to Lily.

There are also a few hay bales dotted around, great for photo opportunities or just a rest.

The staff are great at welcoming you and really help you to enjoy the whole experience when you have picked your pumpkins and go to pay they have a tub of sweets for the little ones to have a little treat after all that hard work searching for the best pumpkin.

Whilst there you can also purchase the raw milk from the vending machine over in the farm buildings over the road, milk just how I remember back when I was a child and had the thick creamy layer sat at the top super tasty!

It’s a lovely our second year visiting, the girls really look forward to it especially Willow, as she gets to a ride in the wheelbarrow.
